DGDL Future Devices Drop-in Pilots Wearables at TechArtFair 2019
A phone is not a phone without a buddy. So, Daily Goods Design LABS (DGDL) decided to pilot three new ‘Wearables’ at TechArtFair 2019, pairing them with the ‘Devices’ drop-in we have been running over the last month at the Ontario Science Centre. These allowed participants to create richer, more fun, scenarios as they collaborated with parents and friends to imagine how their device or wearable would interact in the future.
Some liked the hands-free portability of the wearables. Others gravitated to the compact size, which was more in proportion to the little hands and bodies using them. But the real fun came when co-creating with others and then role-playing through how their new inventions would work.
When we explained how we’d taken the kids through the first stage of our design process by understanding who the device is for, how it would be used, exploring ideas and building a prototype, one parent commented, “It is very deep learning, even ‘though it is a simple exercise.”
Below, you can see some of the remarkable ideas created this Family Day Weekend and, because the pilot was such a hit, we will be continuing the Future Devices and Wearables Drop-in into March. What will you create?
DGDL’S Digital Devices and Wearables Drop-ins take place in the Maker Place at Inventorium 2.0. For the most up-to-date information on these events and more, follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
